On 1 December 2019. New laws to improve swimming pool and spa safety were passed in Victoria. They introduce new registration, inspection, and certification requirements for property owners.

As part of the changes, owners must register their pool and spa with their local council and inspect their safety barrier once every four years.

If a Victorian residential pool or spa has a depth of 30cm or more (300mm), it must be surrounded by a safety barrier. This includes inflatable pools.
