What was the first superhero action figure?
In a world of superheroes, thereās one that pioneered many aspects of pop culture as we know it. Superman was the first superhero action figure to appear in multiple titles across radio and television and was the first to be made into a superhero action figure.
The first Superman comic premiered in 1938 and was an immediate success! By 1940, Superman was featured on a radio program called āSupermanās Christmas Adventureā, after which the toy production company āIdeal Toysā began producing the first Superman superhero action figure to gift kids and kids at heart on Christmas. While it wasnāt called an āaction figureā (that term wasnāt around yet), it built the foundation for todayās hero figurines.
