The Family Tablecloth
Our family started a linen tablecloth years ago, tracing our hands, names and little messages each Christmas. Anyone who joins us adds theirs too, creating a living record of overseas visitors, exes we’ve replaced, and loved ones we’ve lost. It’s our most treasured tradition. When I was living in the UK during Covid, working in the NHS, my mum posted the tablecloth to me so I could add my hand print- including my puppy’s paw print. Receiving it during such a hard time was the best gift I’ve ever been given- making me feel deeply loved.

The Christmas Soirée
Every Christmas I flew from Australia to England to be with my dad who lived in the UK. When he passed away February 2013, Christmas felt suddenly hollow. So, I created a new tradition in his honour: a Christmas Soirée. Instead of buying gifts for each other, friends brought presents for children and families spending Christmas in respite care. With jazz, oysters and shared food, our small pile of donations soon grew, and grew, into carloads delivered to local charities. 12 years on, Christmas is FULL of kindness and love and honouring my Dad.

BEE-YOND a perfect match
Last Christmas, my best friend and I planned a ‘no guy’ Christmas because we were both single and exhausted from disappointing men. A week ago, before the hang out, I stumbled upon THE PERFECT gift for her, which was a JellyCat bee. (She likes bees). It was pricey, but it was totally worth it. When we exchanged presents, we opened them immediately and screamed. We’d bought each other the exact same bee. We laughed non-stop at how adorable it was. My friend whispered, “Who needs a man when this bee makes me happy every day?” Honestly, I couldn’t agree more.
