Why do lipsticks always have more or less the samescent? In France, until the Revolution, people of the court would spritz theirwigs with a blend of crushed iris roots and rice powder. This iris-y sillageremained. Violet made its appearance later, at the end of the 19thcentury, inthe first solid sticks, but became the norm in the 1920s when lipsticks werearomatised with a violet candy flavour, which was fashionable at the time. Andthe harmonies of iris, violet and raspberries have the advantage of beingrather lovely when you run your tongue over your lips
