bring
Christmas to life
The 2011 Myer Christmas Windows have been unveiled in the Bourke Street Mall, revealing a colourful, toe-tapping animated adaptation of the Christmas carol, 'SANTA CLAUS IS COMING
TO TOWN'.
Australian artist Guy Sebastian is the 'voice in the windows' recording the SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN track especially for the 2011 Myer Christmas Windows, with supporting vocals from the Australian Girls Choir. The song is also available on the 2011 Myer Spirit of
Christmas CD.
The story of Santa's journey 'to town', which was created in 1934, comes alive across six windows. This animated spectacular has been inspired by the style and colour of the 1950s, evident in the design of the 114 characters in the windows, which have been individually sculptured, immaculately costumed and finished with hard wigs and intricately applied make-up.
The well known chorus is a highlight in each window as a chorus line is 'revealed' within the set featuring 10 ventriloquist style chorus girls who appear to tell their audience what they better watch out for! Audiences will also love the nine galloping reindeer in the final window, which look almost lifelike due to the incredible display of animatronics created for the scene.
The showstopper, however, is in Window Four where 18 children - each dressed in an international costume - revolve around a Christmas tree in a circle each holding hands and singing.
The Myer Christmas Windows are available for viewing from Friday 4 November 2011 to Sunday 8 January 2012 from 7:30am - 1:00am daily (with sound stopping from 10:00pm daily out of respect for our city neighbours).
