About Myer Fashions on the Field

The VRC's Myer Fashions on the Field competition at Flemington remains Australia's largest and most prestigious outdoor fashion event, and the pinnacle fashion event of the Spring Racing Carnival.

Man and woman dressed for race day

Women and their racewear became a focus at Flemington more than 40 years ago, when the first Fashions on the Field competition was held to try and entice more women to the racecourse.

Today, the Women's Racewear category of the competition often eclipses the public and media attention at the track; such is the size and popularity of the event. Telecast on Channel 7, the Women’s Racewear category attracts more than 1000 entrants from Victoria and across Australia each year as part of the annual national tour.

The competition travels to Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia to find Australia’s most glamorous and stylishly dressed women to compete in the National Final on Crown Oaks Day.

State Finals have already been held in Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland, with the Western Australia competition to be held on Saturday 16 October. The entire event culminates with the winner of the National Final announced on Crown Oaks Day – The Ultimate Style Day - Thursday 4 November.

AAMI Victoria Derby Day sees the judging of the Men’s Racewear category, which is now in its tenth year and continues to grow in popularity.

The "invitation-only" Design Award and Millinery Award will again bring a touch of the catwalk to Flemington in 2010, with all heats and finals presented as choreographed fashion parades. The Design Award will be held on Emirates Melbourne Cup Day and the Millinery Award will be held on Crown Oaks Day.
