Introducing our new Office
After two years of construction, Myer’s new National headquarters at Melbourne’s Docklands precinct is now officially open for business.
Subtle features of the building such as the facade, over-sized windows reflective of the Bourke Street windows, and its crisp sharp lines are also representative of the retail heritage of the Myer brand.
“Myer needed a strong identity - not one that competes with its surroundings but one that reflects its distinctive brand. We set out to design a precisely detailed building that was silky smooth and razor sharp in its language of minimalism, modernity and elegance." - James Grose, National Director of BVN Architecture
A key design strategy is the theming of each of the 10 levels around an exploration of 100 years of fashion, art music, and popular culture from 1900 to present day. Each level has its own identity, integrated through the use of graphic panels, forms, furniture, patterns and plants.
An outdoor terrace on the top level gives staff the opportunity to get some fresh air whilst enjoying views over the revitalized Melbourne Docklands. There are also amenities such as a prayer room, a fully equipped gymnasium with classes, a full cafeteria and kitchens on each floor.
Sustainability initiatives for the building include an east facing atrium with interconnecting stair, maximizing natural light penetration and reducing lift use. There is also a gas fired co-generation plant which will produce about 30 per cent of the base building’s electricity requirements.
These have resulted in the Myer National Support Office achieving a 5 Star Green Star - Office Design (v2) Certified rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
