Welcome to this year's Myer Christmas Windows - Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'. To coincide with the Centenary of Federation our version of the famous tale has been set in Melbourne at the turn of the century and features many of the City's famous buildings and landmarks. The windows authentically depict the turn of the century period and each window is framed by a span of the famous Princes Bridge in Swanston Street. The windows will be on display in the Myer Melbourne Bourke Street windows until Sunday 7th January 2001.

Over the years there have been many and varied themes in the Christmas Windows. How many do you remember? For a list of the themes from all previous Christmas Windows go to the What's New section.
An image of the Princess Bridge, Swanston Street surrounds each window and was built to replace an earlier 1850's era single spanned structure. Our current triple arched stone bridge was designed by Jenkins, D'Ebro and Grainger in 1886 to be both wider and stronger to deal with the widening of the Yarra and increased heavy traffic in the growing city of Melbourne.
Decorated with the coats of arms of the local councils who contributed financially to its erection and constructed by David Munro, the Princes Bridge was named in honour of the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
