About the Redevelopment
The new Myer Melbourne
In 2007, the former owners of Myer – the Texas Pacific Group
and the Myer Family - sold the Bourke St and Lonsdale Street premises to
Colonial First State.
The sale of the Myer Melbourne buildings signalled the start
of an exciting journey – the complete re-build of the company’s flagship store.
When the rebuild is complete, Myer Melbourne will trade out of the one store on
the current Bourke Street site – nine floors in total – from the Basement
level, through to the seventh level.
In total, the new Myer Melbourne will be approximately
32,000 square metres.
Beginning in May 2010, each floor in the new Myer Melbourne
will be progressively re-opened over a six-month period, culminating in the
Grand Opening of the new Myer Melbourne in November 2010.
The store will continue to trade as normal throughout the
gradual, phased re-opening period.
The new Myer Melbourne will include some of the biggest
brands in the world across men’s and women’s apparel, beauty and electrical.
Dynamic installations and creative visual displays will create an inspiring
shopping environment for customers - one that has never been seen before in
Australia.
The new Myer Melbourne will also feature food offerings on each level as well
as lounges for weary customers to rest during a long day’s shopping.
The re-build will also combine the old and the new with the historic Mural Hall
and the famous Myer Christmas windows to be retained and remain an integral
part of the new store.
After the Bourke Street store has been rebuilt, the
redevelopment of the Lonsdale Street site will begin. The redevelopment of this
site is expected to finish in 2013.
Although the owners of this building, Colonial
First State will determine what happens to the Lonsdale Street site in the
future, Myer does have the option to lease up to 7000 square metres of space in
the building.
The Myer National Support Office, which is currently located in the Lonsdale
Street building will re-locate to Docklands, on the fringe of Melbourne’s CBD
at Docklands in 2010.
